Well apparently the Government hunters cant get the job done according to UDWR and landowners!!!!

"Chronic Depredation" permits for landowners and family????
I guess every ranch has a pack of hounds like days of old?????

It is nice for ranchers though to be able to take matters into their own hands if needs be. Because, at least one area where we run our sheep, the trapper has so much ground to cover and so many predators around he just can't get everywhere. Its no fault of his but it is a good thing for the rancher in my opinion.

I heard that its one landowner up north with hounds and sheep stiring all this.
Just what I heard!

How can one landowners complaints change all this when nobody else is having problems?
I know I run cow&calvs.

Cougar depredation in Utah is as low as it has ever been.

Unless a landowner has a different motive?

A few years back a landowner showed to the UDWR wildlife board and asked for lion permits on his land to protect his sheep.

It was asked why he could not provide access to houndsmen to help with his depredation problems? Utah houndsmen know how to kill lots of lions!!!

His response was " he didnt want to provide access because of all the snowmobiles"
Apparently he didnt have that bad of lion problems!

The UDWR wildlife board DENIED him.

You're right about the rancher from the north who pushed this, he soaks every state a d government organization he can for everything. They want to be able to kill lions in an area that they have consistent problems during the summer. First off if he is having a problem lion in the summer odds are he isn't getting the same ofender in the winter which he knows, it's just a permit to kill more lions. I've heard it from his mouth, "every predator needs to die,god can sory em out". I'm not saying a guy doesn't have the right to kill animals that are killing livestock, hell call me we can catch the actual offender right then and there. I have livestock, grew up working on sheep and cattle ranches, but I never once heard the sheep man I know complain about lions. Bears,coyotes, and eagles,yes. I'm not saying lions don't kill sheep, but this guy claims they're wiping him out! I call bullshit, I know him but unfortunately the dwr knows little enough of what goes on, nor do they really care about the lion, especially in BE county, they by his bullshit. I used to really like the guy, but have learned to think differently of him. All hunters should be pissed about this, not just houndsmen. It will take away opportunity for those wanting a lion. I think they dam sure better count these lions towards the quotas!

I got my dogs poisened a few years back by our local sheep man. Along with about 6 other hound guys.

Guess what the udwr did for us?

NOTHING!!!!!
