Re: westcoast cat dogs
To me, that is the absolute hardest type of dog to find. Your probably aware of them as they are both in Oregon - Mike Kemp and Brent Otterson are breeding that type of dog but like any, some don't make it. Both of them usually have pups or young dogs but are pricey. Also, all the ones I have hunted around from either of them were what I'd call tight mouthed on cold tracks but they may have more open mouth ones available. If you happen to find some I'm always interested and would appreciate hearing about them. Good luck.

Re: westcoast cat dogs
I will have some bluetick pups in a couple months that should do just fine on both, just like their parents and grandparents.
But of course they will be babies and (drum roll...oh my god!!!) blueticks.
They have cat sense, locating sense and baying sense; they will stay on one but will rate and bay a bear accordingly to what they can get away with, I do not keep dogs that will mount a bear I have never needed one and can't afford to keep one around laid up all season (well when we had one - moot point now).
They do however also tend to be a little tighter mouthed.
If either of you might know people interested...

Have heard pups from Tim Pittman Bozo dog are doing well on bear. Never hunted with them just hear say, but from hunters who would know. Sure some do well on cat, that's what they are bred for. Al

If you like blue dogs try one of Liz's dogs or try one of Kevin Blankenship's .I don't know Kevin and i don't owe him anything but i've seen his dogs in action. They can catch cat or bear under any conditions.I believe Kevin's dogs are mostly walker bred.

My buddy has it. I'll PM it to you later this evening. I think he lives up in Sweet Home.
