Shock Collars

Post by Walkers4life »

I am in the market for a new shock collar. Looking for hunters opinions on them. I know Tri-Tronics is the king of the shock collar market but are also more expensive. What I really need the collar for is to control dog box barking. I don't really need it for any other correction at the time anyways. I was thinking about trying the new Garmin shock system - $199.00 for 1/2 mile range (even though I really only need about 10 feet lol) Just want some input from other hunters on what would be best suited for my needs or if you guys have some reviews on the Garmin Shock System.

Clearify that a little-- do you ever rig the hounds?
if so you dang sure want a "shock collar" if you do not rig them I would get a Dogtra YS 500 bark collar -- you just have to remember to take it off the dog when you dump them out.

Oh no I rig or should put that she does. I don't use rigging per say a lot - but helps when bear is ahead of the dogs as to where exactly the bear just crossed so we have time to continue hunting into the new area or pull the plug. She is a hyper dog ever since she was a up and gets very excited. Barks right away for awhile then calms down. But she barks when she can hear dogs out running when I am trying to listen and barks when other dogs get out and she doesn't get out for a little while. She rigs well and know the difference between her just barking for funzies and her barking because a bear crossed. I borrowed a shock collar last year and it did wonders for my patience while hunting. My hunting counter parts also enjoyed not having her bark when she's not supposed to. Good dog - but can be a pain in the ass at times. Just don't want her teaching her pup that she just had this fall the same bad habits/tricks.

If you just want to stop the rubber lipping in the box for no reason, and are not rigging , get a dogtra YS 500 put it on the dog that babbles in the box.. set it to the desired level . on a 7 there is dang few that will bark many more times.. then when you are ready to dump-- be dang sure to take that sucker off the dog(s) it will surely stop un-necessary barking and it could cure them from hunting!

I just bought 3 more for around the pen.. they were $89 each
