snake bite

Post by live to hunt »

I came home from work and found my 8 month old pup with a very swollen head I was sure it was a snake bite from a praire rattler The vet said she would be ok in a few weeks after I.V. and drugs Have any of you had this happen and what is the long trem effects from the poison. My main worry is loss of smell since she was bit on the head.

Snake bite

Not likely to be any long term effect. I have had several dogs bitten over the years and bites on the head are usually less severe than most anywhere else.

give her some vitamin C, it will bring down the swelling quicker than normal.

My vet was telling me about a shot that they can give dogs now as a preventive step before a dog gets bit and it will reduce the recovery time after the snake bit. Is this a gimick???? or does it really work????
