Nurturing?

Post by BlueHoundsMann13 »

Hey y'all! Got a question, i have a 7mo old bluetick pup and was wondering if fixing him would make him less of a hunting dog. I'm new to all of hounding and my Dad wants me to fix him saying that he will be easier to work with. Any comments would be helpful!

I'm sure you will get several different opinions but I wouldn't fix a hunting or a working dog. That's just me. I've seen a few herding dogs fixed so it would keep their mind off the ladies and it pretty much took half the drive out of them. I know some tree dogs are fixed to try to lower some aggression some times but I wouldn't fix him just because you can. He's not a pet he's gonna be a hunting dog.

I have 9 hounds total, 3 are females, 6 are males, 2 of those males are uncut... I never owned a cut male before and I had one that desperately needed it. Changed him 110% for the better.

I won't cut one as a pup, and honestly, cutting a dog IMO does nothing for their dog fightingness or makes them less of a hound. Best solution for a dog that likes to fight is a shock collar, a dog box, dog food, and another dog with a shocker on him as well. Don't run from it, dive into it and fix it.

I wouldn't cut the pup .The few that i've seen that were fixed didn't change their behavior at all.If your pup has papers you might as well burn them,if you cut him.
