red bone

Postby coontail » Mon May 12, 2014 9:08 pm

i had a red bone show up at my house a couple months ago. she looks to be a year old. ive had her out a few times and she hunts but she moves slow and doesnt get far from you. i take her with my feist, one evening the feist treed a coon and the red bone just ignored her and kept hunting. i leashed the red bone and led her close to the tree to watch but let the feist get her mouth on the coon then later the red bone. she showed interest. ive done the exact same thing with a squirrel. this dog has been hunted because she loads good. im just wondering if someone gave up on her to early.

Sounds like it . Its not unusual for a redbone to be a late starter.
But she may have just gotten loose or been turned loose by someone who stole her.
You may want to post her picture on the redbone list on the UKC board or the lost and found hounds thread on the general coonhounds list there. Someone may be missing her.

I don't know what she is talking about but my redbones was the earliest starting dogs I've had along with plotts . All bout the stock of dogs you get them from and the trainer . Has nothing to do with the "redbone" breed In general if I was you I'd let her run loose and chase anything she wanted she will learn
Big ridge kennels

its not the dog in the hunt, its the hunt in the dog
