I Need Educated on the Garmin Astro's

Post by XM110 »

Ok, here we go!
I've finally decided to break down and get a GPS tracker. So, first, what's the difference between the 220 and 320(enough to make a difference?), and I've read and heard everyone likes the DC30's over the DC40's, Can the DC30 be ran with the Astro 320?? And how's everyone liking the DC50's and are they only for the Astro 320?? Sounds like everyone who's got an Astro set up goes with long range antennas for the trackers and receivers before giving them a solid try, right?? Thanx in advance,

I was in your shoes a year ago, here's what i know now.
the 220 will not track the dc 50. the 320 tracks all but alpha's collars. Unless you can find a 220 cheap, get the 320. My buddy has the alpha and side by side they track the same as the my dc 50's. A few weeks ago i hunted side by side with a friend who had the 220, i had all his dogs( dc 30's) and mine the whole time, while he couldn't track my dc50's and was in and out with his own dogs and a 3ft antenna( maybe its just seen alot of use). dc30's are hard to come by and lack the battery life of the 50's. haven't heard anything good about the 40's. If you hunt with friends who use the alpha you should seriously consider the added cost as the two don't track each other. No matter what gps set up you get it will beat wandering around waving a magic wand. good luck.

If you don't already have a shock system get the alpha.
