Been out west for a little while and my biscuit eaters do OK in these mountains, but I'm headed back to S. Texas where the running dog reigns. Just wondering who is breeding Black & Tans that are consistantly catching bobcats on dry ground? The tree-dog man in me doesn't Want to convert to running dogs but I also don't want my preference to overide lodgic.
Any leads would be appreciated.

It is what it is! I understand your preferences as I have the same for big blue dogs. In the type of terrain you will be in, if you want to catch cats on a consistent basis, you will be better suited to overlook your preferences and go with what works where you will be hunting.

I spent a fortune trying to buck the trend!
The big blues, I have now are perfect for cold trail lion hounds or cats in mountainous country, but not suited for S. Texas of eastern brier patches in the south east after cat. But are suited for coon hunting in those areas.

Thanks for your response Big-N-Blue. I still love to coon hunt also, so these tree dogs won' t go to waste. Fortunately, the guys I hunt with in Texas are catching cats regularly, so I'll just have to see whats what when I get there. But I'm to competitive to remain a spectator and so I'll be pushing hard to have my own doers shortly.

About the only guy I know who has Black and Tans in South Texas. His name is Rick Stewart and he lives west of Devine. He coon hunts and catches coons. His dogs are the smaller, more athletic type and he recently had a litter from his little female.
He is a good fellow and I have known him since he was a baby. I used to hunt with his Dad, Hap Stewart when I was a youngster.
Adios,
Gary

You might try a b&t colored Amer. Leopard Hound. The right blood does well down there and you will be surprised at how much some of them look like B&T hounds. If you would like a couple of pictures just drop me an e-mail.
