what books or video's would you guys say every new person to the sport of chasing Bobcats should read/watch?
there will be a season here in Indiana soon and I would like to be ready. starting from scratch on running bobcats with the dogs, so im trying to learn as much as I can before it opens here.
I coon hunt and sq hunt with dogs just never tried to train a bobcat dog....thanks for any idea's.

David on this site has a fantastic book out called Bobcat dog. It truly is a good read. As for training if you have coon dogs and rodent dogs lol. Then you'll be fine just instead of coon you use bobcat aint no different just a litte tufer aint like you have a bobcat on every corner you can get in a live trap like a coon.

X 2 on Davids book. can be bought at Double U. Also "Bobcats, Masters of Survival" can find at Amazon. The second book is mostly about habitats etc.. Could get ideas on areas to hunt.

Thanks for the votes of confidence in the book. Rusty, I recently sent the last twenty books to Double U. Now if I want one, I have to buy it from Double U. I don't have any immediate plans of making more. When they sell out this batch they are gone. You should not wait if you want one.

They say it will be 2016 when they open a season here in the Hoosier state...but it might be 2017 knowing our DNR.
I am just thinking I should get a head start on learning all I can about them now.
The hounds have run some tracks that didn't run like a coon, fox or deer. It was at night and the dogs hit a hot track and drove it up thru the woods and got treed like they were looking at it.
As we walked in with our lights on and got pretty close, the dogs shut-up. We stood there wondering what happened, then all of the sudden they picked up the track and drove it up into a bunch of cutover timber. They ran it thru all that crap for an hour and never did catch it or push it out of there. We finally had to wade into the mess and catch them.
I cant say it was a bobcat but we haven't run anything that acted that way before. We have hunted that area again and had similar situations happen. There was no snow so we couldn't find any tracks, but coon don't normally jump out and run around here is why we thought it might be a bobcat.
It was in a place that the local farmers had seen a bobcat while harvesting.
Looking forward to the challenge!

Rusty, I have to apologize. I went back and changed my post. I don't know how, but I thought you had mentioned that neighboring state that starts with an "I". Probably insulted you. Didn't mean to. I was born in Indiana and you have a great man for Governor there. I am surprised and pleased that bobcats have been getting established there. Some one there is in charge of the study that is going into the decision to open the season. Try to find out who it is and if any of the work is available for you to read. If not talk to them and tell them you are excited about them opening up a great new sport and some individuals have spent over a million dollars on it in the course of a lifetime in other states. Tell them you are gearing up and wondering about the best parts of the state etc.
It sure sounds like you have one located. Snow tells all.

I appreciate the idea on talking to the biologist that's in charge of the Bobcat study. I have spoken with the local CO's and they have told me that they tried to get the season opened next year but were told no.
The bobcat population in the southern part of the state, specifically the southwestern part where I live, has exploded according to the CO'S. However the rest of the state does not have the population numbers therefore they don't want to open it up yet.
The CO's tried to get them to open it up in the southern half of the state, but were told no.
The coyote trappers have caught a bunch of them around here and always have to call the CO to either come and help release them or at least document one was caught and where it was.
It should be a good time when it finally opens!
