E brake locking up 06 Tacoma

Postby Tom A » Tue Dec 23, 2014 5:14 pm

Any body else have their e brake lock up on their Tacoma? This has happend to me twice now both times in the middle of a hot race in the middle of no where. VERY fustrating when you have to beat on the backing plate and brake drum to get to your dogs.

Was it cold out and you engaged it ? E brakes on any truck are suspectible to freezing. I do not ever use my ebrake for that reason. And also if you engage it sometimes the pedal may come back to the right place but it didn't in engage it... And you'll have to tty it again. I have a 07 dcsb

Both times I was driving through big puddles, low 40s no ice any where. Its always the right rear that hangs up.

U might check to see if the seal on that side is leaking. If the differential fluid is leaking into the rear drum it will cause the breaks to stick to drum.

OK thanks I will check it out. I had the drum off a while back and the shoes did look a little oily.
