"Meet Mr. Grizzly" isn't necessarily about bobcat hunting, but the information about hounds in general is very useful. The last time I mentioned this book on this board, another poster made the comment that the author was way ahead of his time in the way hounds were understood. That statement was entirely correct.

Reading hound books relating to the game you wish to pursue is always nice and most of us have a pretty full library. The best books though, are the ones that deal directly with the hound. It doesn't matter what particular game a person wishes to go after. Once you understand the hound, the chasing comes fairly easy. The best hound books, like John Wick's, may discuss a certain type of hound, but because the books are written more for the hound than the game, the information can be used and transferred over to just about any type of scent hound.

All that being said,
Bobcat Dog, by David Peightal
Walk With Wick 1 & 2, by John Wick
Slash Ranch Hounds, by Dub Evans. This book is mainly just a bunch of hunting stories, with several about pursuing bobcats. This isn't really a training book.

Speaking of books, does anyone have a source for the book "Bobcat Dogs"? Double U no longer has it and I cannot find another source.

I was told that the author only had something like 300 copies made and that was it. Sorry I couldn't help you. I know that if there were more made, they would probably sell like hotcakes.

Ole traveler by b.s. Jones is a good book on cat catching short stories. The book is about cat hunting in fla. In the 50s. Have no idea whether it is true or not. I'm not sure whether the people outside of the very southern southeast states would be able to visualize the type hunt he describes. I think whoever b.s. Jones was or is really did some cat hunting. The initials b.s. Kinda makes me scratch my head a bit. Anybody ever know b.s. Jones from around Ocala?

I purchased the Wick books several years ago and actually read something in them at least once a month, I don't coon hunt or cat hunt but im open minded enough to learn how other hunters catch their game with dogs and trial and error some of those methods and find what works for me. I'm just about through with slash ranch hounds, not many training tips but really makes you appreciate what a good nosed hound can do and some of the stories make the reader feel like they're there. Meet Mr. Grizzly is probably next on the list.

I am sorry the books are gone. I thought pretty much everyone who wanted one got one, but evidently I was wrong. I would kind of like to have one myself, but can't find one. I am hoping I left one with my mom and dad.

But please don't feel like that book had anything you can't find here in the bobcat section of BGH. If you will read this section from beginning to end, you will have received ever so much more than the book could have given you.

I wonder if Buddy or someone could put together a library of books; require fee and a huge deposit to be returned when the book is returned?

David, Have you considered getting the book printed for a second edition?
High Lonesome Books in Silver City, NM probably has the biggest selection of hound related books for sale. They have also bought the rights to alot of old and out of print books and have started reprinting them for the younger houndsmen coming along.

They may be interested in making a deal to help get "Bobcat Dog" printed in a second addition.
Just a thought.

Thank you. I was down there in Silver City last spring and had a nice talk with Dutch. I should have stayed a few days as he offered to let me watch his sight hounds do what they do so amazingly well.

There have been several kind offers of help to re-print the book. Chances are, someday it will be reprinted. There are a few things in my life that have kept me from it. (lacking the money for printing is not one of them).

But really guys, it ain't that great. BGH is better.

I have found out if you want to do something that people will think is really good. Just be the only one doing it. Lol.

Which reminds me of something a mentor once told me:

"Why do what others can and will do when there are things YOU can do that no one else can or will do."

There are some men reading this that need to join me in publishing a book. It does not need to be fancy. You could have your children custom make each cover with crayons and staple the sheets together off your home printer.

I would buy it.
