9-15 Nice Boar

Postby silverton boar dogs » Tue Sep 16, 2008 11:59 am

Its been wet around here this week and the hogs have been tracking up 2 miles of road around my house. Little light breeze and a full moon...so I put Jasper's gear on and collared up my 3 best strike dogs. I loaded Jasper in my jeep and let the strike dogs go and started out the driveway. I don't get 100 yds and Jessie has winded a hog and is gone. I hear him bay about 1/2 mile out in the pasture and the other 2 are there in a flash. They are bayed real solid so I head that way and walk in the bulldog.

They have this boar bayed up in a windmill over flow full of cat tails and that black nasty stinking mud that you find in such a place. I hold the bulldog hoping they will flush him out of the tank, but no luck. I send Jasper and he hits and holds and in I go. Knee deep water and mud and cat tails. I get a leg and try to stear the hog closer to the edge. Icant flip him and I cant let go or he will git back out in the middle, so I just got a hand full of mane and jumped on him like a horse, pulled my knife and stuck him.

Had 2 dogs cut bad, Smokie with a 6" gash on the hip and deep puncture, Jasper got a bad cut in the lower shoulder 6" and deep in the muscle. The tusk hit the leg flap on his vest and went right on through. I loaded the cut dogs in the Jeep and header to the house, woke up the nurse and she helped me clean and staple.

Good boar, dogs should be fine, and only a 1/2 mile from the house....a good night in West Texas.

Hope your dogs heal nice. Good part is, you did not have to drop a lot of cash for gas. LOL. Good job.
