Well Mike, all that talking we were doing about longtails and such made me decide to go load six hounds this morning. Ol' Ike bumped on a old lion track and I held tough and drove on hoping for something a little fresher.
Low and behold if those potlickers didn't rig a darn bear track, so I cut'em loose and hoped for the best. I kinda think this must have been one of those running bears we hear people talk about, cause they had it jumped before too long and were cooking off down the country like they were chasing jumped elk ha! But three or four miles later they fell on the wood and I figured they still ad the good stuff unless they found an elk that could climb........
It was a good day in the field, text book type stuff and I remembered why we all feed these damn hounds......................
keep'em treed,
ike

Thanks Larry. That's my Eagle River Maverick plott dog I got from a good friend over in Colorado. He came over and killed a bear with me one year and offered me one of three pups he had that came out of his plott dog that was Weems/Shamrock bred and then bred back to a Maltese Shamrock top and bottom female dog.
That friend gave one of the males to Joe Hudson to hunt, the other to me and he kept a female for himself. Maverick is in his second year and things are starting to come together for him. He's always been open on track and tree, with lots of that high intensity energy at the tree. And he'll put plenty of pressure on a bear if they don't climb. He was out of action for awhile this summer after he killed a porcupine, and was awhile coming back from all the infection and stuff. This past month he has been running hard and staying with my other hounds and looking like a keeper again..........
