President Elect-Obama Announces Anti-Gun Agenda
One of many proposal found on transition web-site

Orange, VA - The following is a statement released by the Virginia Shooting Sports Association President David Adams, in reaction to President Elect Obama's anti-gun proposal posted on the official Transition web site.

"It did not take long for Barack Obama to show his hand as it relates to the threat that America's gun owners now face under an Obama Administration. Only three days after winning the presidency, he has declared war on honest law abiding gun owners by laying out an agenda that seeks to violate the privacy of gun owners and outlaw an entire class of firearms."

The transition web site, www.change.gov lists the following proposals that target gun owners in America.

"Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets."

VSSA will continue to protect the right of law abiding gun owners as we have for the last 70 years. Gun owners are urged to make their views known to President Elect that lawful gun owners are not to blame for crime and we will let our representatives know in Congress that we oppose these proposals.

VSSA, founded in 1938 is the state affiliate association of the NRA, and works to protect the rights of law abiding gun owners and sportsmen.

If threre was ever a time to support the NRA it is now. They feel like they gots us against the rope and in some ways they do.
I was reading last night about Obama puting a Anti Hunting attorney over the Fish and Widlife departments along with the National Forest.
You can read more on the Sportsman Alliance website.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the time to fight this fight was last week at the ballot box. Now that Obama is in office and the dem's control the congress there is very little we can do but sit back and take our beat down!

Yes, at the ballot box was the best place to fight this, but just because we lost that one is no reason to roll over and play dead. There are a lot of people who voted for him out of some blind, ignorant desire for "change" who will not like the change when they see what it really is and who will join us to stop him if we continue the fight.

If you are willing to "sit back and take our beat down" , you might as well go ahead and shoot your hounds, turn in your guns, start eating quiche, and start getting aquainted at the local sushi bar.

I am not saying that I am happy about it BB but other than griping about it we do not have the votes to stop the dem's from passing legislation.
It is a shame that a lot of people voted for "change" with out any real idea what that "change" was all about but there are no doubt voters that did not research the issues to know exactly where he stands. I know of several that stated they did vote for him even though I know for a fact that they do not have similiar values.

best and only real way to fight now is in numbers by supporting the lobbies and organizations fighting for our interests.

if your not a member.. dont whine when it's lost.

everyone who hunts and owns guns should support these two at the very least..

onegreen,

I apologize for my rant at you in the last paragraph of my previous post. I recognize that you are one of the good guys and did not deserve that.

My point remains, however, that we can and should do more than just gripe. It is true that we do not currently have the votes to stop them, however, we can, and should, start working to change that right now.

Joining, and supporting, organizations like NRA and sportsman alliance is not enough, we need to each become personally politically active. If everyone who visits this board regularily would take half the time they spend on this board and spend it communicating with their congress critter, it would start to get congressional attention. If just one half of the NRA members would just spend 10 minutes a day emailing their congress critter it would start getting some real attention. And, if just one third of the hunters who purchace a hunting license would spend just 30 minutes a week educating their congress critter, then we would very soon have the votes.

Remember, it is the squeaky wheel that gets the grease and it is the vocal minority that gets the attention of politicians. I know, most people on here will say "I don't want to get involved in politics, I just want to go hunting". Here's a newsflash for you, if you don't get involved in politics, you won't be a legal hunter long.

By the way, if you break down the word politics, poli means many, and a tic is a blood sucking insect.

No apology needed! I do not disagree with anything you said and would encourage everyone to do all of the things that you listed. However, I have been around long enough to know that we are the minority in this administration and will have limited success at best. Let's hope in two years then again in four years our allies can make a better showing for themselves!! We do not need the oval office and the congress but we do need one of them!
