Dogs will do that... if you disaplin him every time you see him picking it up you can likly stop him from doing that while in your presence but don't kid yourself that he will not sneak a bite when you are not around  This is what wormers are for. Some dogs do grow out of it and feeding him higher quality food may help also.

Whats worse is having your pup come back to you with toilet paper stuck under his collar... mine sure got a chewing out that day and a bath as sooon as we got back home  Wish people would bury thier crap if they have to go in th woods :?

I never minded my dogs eatin crap, less I have to feed em. :D They usually grow out of it. When my redbones were pups, they used to go dig up buried crap from our camp. Nothing like a dog coming up to you wanting to be petted with crap breath! Once they ate a bunch of coyote crap and puked it all up in the back seat of my truck! Now that was fun and stinky! If it is a big deal, they have some stuff you can add to their food to discourage them from eating their crap, but it's hard to get the other animals in the woods to eat it. :D Just worm them and let em have their "treats".

I have two hounds that live in about a half acre pen with a couple goats and seem to think that those droppings are candy. Ha! One time I witnessed one eating them fresh and hot as they were coming our of the goats rear end, YUK! I pulled them out of the pen after that and havn't put them back in for about 6 months now. I was always gonna check with a vet and see if it would be hard on there system or not. Maybe someone on here could tell me. I would sure like to put them back out there again, I'm tired of them being in the shop with me. Ross

Eating stool is called (coprophagia)
Coprophagia is the name given to the habit of eating stools-either the dog's own or some other animal. Cats' stool seem particularly tempting to dogs.
Most dogs with coprophagia are well nourished and show no evidence of a nutrient deficiency that would account for the compulsion to eat stools. These individuals may have acquired a tatse preference for stools beginning in puppyhood. Other reasons sometimes suggested stool-eating include boredom, unresolved conflict and confinement in close quarters, such as a kennel. Once established, the habit is difficult to break.
Treatment Veterinary examination is warranted to check for parasites and other medical problems. Management included removing stools from the environment as quickly as possible. This is from a vet book I have. Getting a higher protiein dog food stopped mine from doing it. But I also had one pup eat goat droppings and it ended up getting deathly sick and became paralized. So be careful. Good luck

Thanks for the info, very helpful. Although I think they should call it crapophagia. Ha! Ross
