Subject: wolves to be delisted!!

We just had word from the AG’s office that at 10am today (Friday) DOI Sec Salazar will announce delisting of ID and MT wolves! That means the delisting rule will go into the Federal Register and in 30 days, our wolves will be delisted. After that point, Defenders will file their 60 day notice of intent to sue and at the end of that 60 days, will go to court and ask for an injunction (again). But until the judge ordered them listed again, they will be delisted. Remember, this does NOT mean wolves are delisted today. It means 30 days AFTER it is placed in the Fed Reg, they are delisted and will be operating under our state management plan. Please spread the word!

This might be a dumb question, but why do they continue to hold the court proceedings in Missoula? Is that the only fed judicial court in the region?

I guess if I had to choose, Missoula is better than Seattle!!

I don't mean to come across as ignorant, but what exactly is Montana's wolf management plan....I mean details such as season dates, allowed methods of taking game, quota or draw tags only, etc. I did a google search and could only come up with generalities on the FWP page.

From my understanding, if the wolf season runs concurently with big game season, the possible 30 day delisting will do no good. Although I did see where it will only be s misdemenor to kill and posess a wolf :D .

The above link shows that the Western Great Lakes (MN, WI, MI) wolves are also to be de-listed. Like has been said, I'm not holding my breath.

there are a federally protected animal, so if you kill one its a federal offense, so i dont think ull walk away with a misdemenor, and if that is the case, a very lovely, hefty fine will be tacked on.

at the moment, our manegement plan is let them run buck wild, doin as they please, killin as they please. the only control is by the gov. they kill a wolf or two here or there, but nothin serious. a rancher CAN shoot and kill if they are in livestock, but an "investigation" will follow.

wacoyotehunter-thats a great question...how is it the court hearing get tossed to the absolute most liberal part of the state?...that judge malloy who handled the first de-listing hearing is a crack pot, he had all the biological evidence that the wolves had made an extreamly healthy recvoery, but he just pushed all that to the side. thats a load of bs how that can happen.

can you not read?? from the 31st day till numnnut(I would like to thank Nolte pointing it out that I have been spelling it wrong this whole time LOL)Malloy places them back on the list they will be under the states jurisdiction not the feds, so shooting one would be like like shooting a deer out of season.

this should help clear up a few things http://fwp.mt.gov/news/article_7815.aspx

The reason for the hearings in Missoula, is it was the closest place they (granolas) could find a liberal judge to put them back on the list. They've realized it's still a problem and so be it. We have a small problem here in Wyoming with them but they're not going to let us manage it ourselves this go around.....legally anyways.....so we still have them listed.

The pro-wolfers have been trying for years to get Washington and Oregon, listed in the recovery area, if they were to have succeeded, it would be heard by the 9th district court in SAN FRANCISCO CALIFORNIA, so, I would say, so far so good.

The delisting still does no good for management north of I-90, look on a map and you'll see how screwed Montana is. Same for northern Idaho.

Montananative - I forgot to mention in my post that I was refering to the time period in which the wolves are delisted. Believe me, I understand that they are a federally protected animal right now and they are allowed to run rampant.

Doogie - thanks for the link. At the end of the article it mentions that they would be managed similar to bear and lion. I presume that means unlimited tags and a quota per hunting district.

onalimb - In the atricle that doogie posted the link to it explains that the line dividing Montana in to two seperate management areas goes away and wolves are considered a "species in need of mangement" statewide. That quote is the understatement of the century.

See the management plans on the right hand side. This site also describes known predation, goverment kills, and population ESTIMATES... (WAG's).

Sheimer, you're right, that is the understatement of the century!

I got a call this morning about a F&G meeting tonight, seems cutting back on Elk and Deer hunting is on their minds, I knew this was coming.
