TENTS???

Best tent to use while in the wilderness that is very durable and dependable. What do you guys use that is gauranteed to withsand the elements?? THANKS

I have used these in mountains blizzards, super canvas get the fly for your tent. Outfitter or cowboy tee pee that I use the most and will be living in for the next three days in the la Jara. I will be warm, dry and ready to hit the saddle come morning.

Guys I think one of the greatest thing about camping out hunting hard and doing it semi-primitive. You get your supper done camp chores finished and you look around and all those usual night owls are yawning and ready to hit the hay. Each night your slumber becomes sweeter, and you feel your balance coming back to you.

It is an awful thing but once you are in a comfortable camp, with a wondrful David Ellis tent and fly and are riding many miles each day, enjoying stable camp fare and great fellowship, you are spoiled. I mean you want to stay and enjoy this more and more.

I know old Big N Blue is going to say. You had to do it didn't you?

LOL! Just reminding him of his wonderful camp up on the Blue River near Clell Lee's old place.

Tell me true B&B it ain't the lions you go there for is it?

I have a canvas 12x18 wall tent made by Ken's Custom Canvas in Homedale Idaho.
It has been one of the best tents I have ever used .The internal frame and tent has withstood sum nasty weather elk hunting.I would recommend it to anyone. I am a firm belever you get what you pay for.You can check his website .Just my two cents.

This little 8 by 10 has been real handy for three winters that I've left it in for a base camp. The dogs have a lean to filled with straw.

With a built up floor over a couple logs and the tarp over the top it will handle about four ft of snow before I have to get the shovel out and clear it away from the walls.
Nice place to overnight or just warm up & fix a meal.

The enteryway is only cut wide enough for the narrow Tundra sled, keeps the folks on the big play sleds honest

Nice set up there R! I sure miss that big timber in Oregon - and the live water. Great to see guys hangin in there hunting your hounds. There is a guy in Homedale Idaho that can build about what ever kind of tent you want - from walls to tee pee's. The outfit is Ken's Custom Tents I'm sure he's listed. I have a few - oldest one is about 10 years old and holding up well. Frontier

Mike, You are a Butt!!! LOL

Never could afford any good canvas tents but have had good luck with the 10 by 20 tent from cabellas that cost about 269.00. Holds up good in the wind and keeps us dry and warm with a big buddy heater. The only drawback is the zippers do not last over 2 years.

You are right Mike, the lion does not count for much, it is the lifestyle I like! LOL
Could live the rest of my life in a good camp with decent hounds and good mules.

Shoot David, if you spent the rest of your life in a good camp, you would get rid of those mules, just like old Ben Lilly did ! ! !

Tim, it would save a lot of money and if I could walk like the game warden up there I would. He made a hell of a round with us on mules and him on foot. He was running with the dogs! LOL We finally caught up with him and he was not even out of breath. LOL I am talking some real rough country too!! I accused him of trying to kill us!! LOL

My 12x18 wall tent from Kens Custom Canvas is 12 oz canvas weights about 75 lbs.

The 10 oz canvas is lighter than the 12 oz if weight is a problem. 12 oz is a warmer winter tent.The cowboy teepee that Mike mentioned is a real good way to go if your horseback and or on the move alot. Also it's real handy for pickup camps where you move every day.
The wall tent is a good choice for a 2 day plus camp where your not moving as much. I have corner brackets that work with poles I can cut at the site and leave for future trips. This is for a internal frame and is nice but not absolutly needed.
I've never weighed my 8 by 10 but it's 10 oz cloth and rolls up fairly small, maybe 25 or 30 lbs. with out a ground cloth. My 2 stoves are stainless steel and home made. My tent frames are homemade as well and I built a porch for my 10 by 12 tent that also works as a breezeway when I set the two tents up facing each other for a bigger camp with guests, kitchen and sleep tent

I use the pyramid tent or cowboy tee pee. They hold up real good in any kind of weather. I bought it from Red hawk trading co. in ID. It is the best tent I have ever had. It only takes about 5 min. to set up, it has the one pole in the middle then you just put the stakes around the outside.
