7 Month old walker female
I got a 7 month old walker, and was wanting to know if shes too young to start. she goes crazy over a coons tail i got, but i showed her a live coon for the first time when she was 6 months old and she was real scared of it, but whne the older dogs got on it when we let it go, she wasnt as scared she jumped in at the end when it was almost dead. any tips?

great looking dog!!! SHit i wouldve started that dog 3 months ago
let her rip! Just dont let her get tore up. The key to making a game crazy/gritty dog is to let scrap with it a bit but dont let em get tore up a young age.

and by two yrs of age you would have a burnt out, worthless piece of shit dog.
patience is key, dont rush your pups, and dont hunt them hard untill they have got atleased a yr to a yr and a half of age on em. thats how i do it anyways. all dogs are different, but even if i had an early starter, i would not push them hard. thats what the older dogs are for.

all the game crazy dogs that i have seen were that way at a young age they had it breed in them. i agree with montana, don't push your pup to hard till it matures some, it sure sucks watching your good prospect fizzle out. good luck with your pup.houndcrazyfool wrote: The key to making a game crazy/gritty dog is to let scrap with it a bit but dont let em get tore up a young age.

It may do more harm then good showing a young pup a live coon. Some go ape shit, some get scared. But all you need is a little scent drag now and then and let it run with some experianced dogs is the best way to go. Lots of walks in the woods.

Yes take it slow the pup isn't physically or mentally capable. The problem to starting a dog to young is that they are more likely to have a bad experience which will result in a pumped dig 4 a year or two than he will bore of coon or dread it.
