Re: NCTA June 7, 2009 Youth Event (non-UKC)
I think if we could, we should try and work out trying to have a Hunt as well. Go by the same rules as a regular UKC Youth hunt, that way kids get a little "practice time" and those that might want to even do egular NH would have a little experiance. I'm sure we would only have enough people to do one Cast, wouldn't need a MOH, and just need one guide. I could judge I GUESS
We could explain some of the rules alng the way, and kinda tell them what to do next type of deal. Just get a few trophys or something, maybe even give everyone in the "cast" something?? IDK. I just think we need to get more people, especially youth in the WOODS!
If it's not a UKC event it shouldn't matter what dog they hunt? I will donte dogs, I have two great handling dogs that are easy to call if someone wants there kid in a hunt (or show)

Re: NCTA June 7, 2009 Youth Event (non-UKC)
Cassandra, the problem is that we ran out of available weekends in June. That's why we had to put the youth event on a Sunday. Since United Houndsmen is having a water race on Saturday, that makes it potentially really inconvenient to have a hunt -- an open water race on Saturday, then rush up to Honcut for a nite hunt, drive home and then back again in the morning for the other events.
I understand and agree with what you're saying, but theoretically it should be much easier for parents to take their kids hunting than for them to have opportunities to show, ft and wr without having to compete against the adults and their dogs.
We could do a youth hunt Sunday night depending on how the parents whose kids would be participating feel about it. I guess kids are out of school by then ??? so it would probably come down to parents' work schedules. For people who go to both the Galt WR and our Youth Event, it's going to be a full weekend!
We can make changes to this event right up to a week or so before it, so keep the ideas and suggestions coming and the Board members will discuss all of them.
The hunt can definitely be done next year, UKC licensed or not (I'm thinking not since the UKC rules are pretty harsh). We need to start gauging interest now for next year.

Re: NCTA June 7, 2009 Youth Event (non-UKC)
I forgot about the Open Races. But no one I know or talk to plans on going to any of those.
At least it's on a Sunday, I can come help you guys out. We should do a Bench Show and FT & WR, and possibly a Tree Contest? I should sit down and think of some of the stuff the judges asked me and made me do when I was a Junior. We should start asking anatomy, and breed questions, ect to the kids during the show, so they can learn new stuff. I could even possibly do a "handling" class? Maybe before the show and see how the kids handling skills improve?
Looks like next year might have to make the events a little later on Sat's (early in the year when its cool) cause I dont think I'm going to be able to get them off. I typically get off work between 1-2pm. Just late enough to miss the bench shows... I can usually ask to be out of there by a certian time, and that goes a little better than asking for a day off.

Hey guys, do you have to be a member to attend this event. My son has a grade dog that he would like to get into some events. If you're taking suggestions, I think the hunt idea sounds like a lot of fun...we'd be in.

This is Non UKC. No membership required. So bring 'em!
Hopefully we can try and see about doing a hunt.
