Couple things to think about:

Notice I put my doors as high as I could to give a bit of something to hold in the cedar shavings that I put in my box in the winter months. I don't see very many other boxes that are like that. The dogs learn to hop over it pretty easy.
These photos are on my old truck, but the truck that the box was made for. It was lifted pretty good, so I had to move the doors as far to the sides as I could so I could reach the latch from over the side of the bed.
I also put spring loaded hinges on the doors to help it slam in the second dogs face as I pull the first dog out. Again the dogs learn this is coming, so I don't have dogs that charge the door to get wacked in the face by the door. They wait their turn and come to the door when their name is called.

Hope this helps you a bit.
Good luck with the new box.

This one is bridged accross the top of your bed sides with 2x6's. Best use of bed space. Not too much into materials.

plotts-that is nice, can you load dogs from the front or is it just for rigging?

I do have a divider in it, but I put like a channel in there for the plywood divider to slide into from the top so that I can remove it if need be. I have been hunting this box now for three years and have yet to find a reason to remove the divider.
Because it uses the full width of the bed the dogs have A LOT of space. Right now I am down to only five dogs, and the box will hold eight pretty easy. I don't get dogs stepping on each other in the box too much and getting testy with each other.
I also enjoy having space under the box, between the wheel wells for HI LIFT jack, shovel, axe, and to slide a bear up under if I need to.
I went over kill on my box, and it has made a difference in how long it lasts. The corner that is right below the head holes is fiberglassed on the outside. Also the entire top is covered with one piece of fiberglass. I was just looking at this box the other day thinking about how good of shape it is still in, then I put my nine month old lab in it for a day because he was feeling sick and I wanted to be able to walk him and check on him while I was at work. Well he felt good enough to chew the head holes on the drivers side pretty good.
Dang dogs, whatta ya do with em?????

Painted it black when I took it off the '87 toyota and put in on the '01 toyota. Now I hunt with it on my '83 toyota and it still fits okay.

Good luck with the new box.

Its bridged across the top of the bedsides and uses the entire bed. I cut a carpet scrap to fit around the wheel wells and that holds the
carpet in place. It has a center divider and two doors on the back.
Made the rack out of simple pipe fittings and attached with pipe unions so that I can take off the rack when not hunting.
I built it so that the dogs can stick thier nose out but not thier entire head; as I never really cared for that look from a safety standpoint.
No offense to anyone, but it looks goofy to me (JMO). Also the top is wider than the bed side to help shade and keep the weather out.

I went to a flat bed last summer so this box actually hit the burn pile; but it is a good way to haul the dogs and gives you a platform for hauling
other gear.
