To cut or not to cut???

Post by Rcher »

I have a 2 year old Kemmer that I use for bobcats and lions, in the summer I will chase coons just to keep him in shape. The dog is outstanding and I could not be happier with the way he hunts, hes not perfect, but gettin close.

When I got him from a well known breeder he suggested that if I wasnt going to breed him to have him cut because of all the BS you have to put up with with an uncut dog. He told me to do it before the dog turned 5 months or it would not help. Long story short I didnt have him cut. Now I have decided I am not going to breed him but will cutting him at this age put an end to all the pissing and starting fights and all that other BS??

Cutting is a fix but might only be short term. I had a Kemmer dog I really liked cut because he started fights and it fixed him up good until one day he killed my best dog. Needles to say I still am not anywhere close to the dog power I once had. Cesar Millan the dog whisperer also says its a short term fix. I'm sure there is success stories out there but next time I have a dog that starts fights I will handle the problem with something louder than a knife.
Dont be a fool cover your tool. When in doubt cover your spout.

I think cutting only maybe, slightly supresses how a dog is already programmed, which is how that dog was meant to be from the beginning of development. Doing so, might let you "hope" it makes a difference...
If you're doing it to hope to cure a bad problem, it likely wont and you're going to be left with the same option you're probably considering now, shoot it or hunt and kennel it alone.

If nuts/ovaries are responsible for such problems, explain all the intact dogs that arent aggressive.
Its just how they're programmed.
Everyone obviously has had different results.

Jmo.

I've got a bitch who's a bit snitty at the tree from time to time. Never starts a fight but is just a bit possessive of her space sometimes, throws her head at times. Shes getting snipped not because I hope to try and fix it, but just to make life easier in my kennel and those possible hereditary traits aren't ones I'd wish to continue.
If it helps great, but I dont think it will.

Cut
I cut my best dog 4 months ago because he threw to many culls, and he was 6. It hasn't hurt his hunting one bit. You have nothing to lose, you can only gain.
