Re: Tree dogs
And by the ozhound I do have lion hounds that's what there bred for and that's what I'm training them for so yes they are lion dogs to me and there the best in my opinion so let's not try to cause problems.

Re: Need some advice
I don't believe there is such a thing as hunting too far lol. Are you sure they're running deer? I don't know where you're at in Montana but here there are whitetail, mule deer, antelope, elk, moose, coyote, fox, etc. Stupid as it sounds I've heard guys say that a dog can be broke off of one type of ...

Re: 1/4 bloodhound crosses?
These didn't tree on a fence post. The coon went over a windbreak and through a woven wire fence. The dogs didn't tree, they were trying to get through the fence. We backed off and they figured it out and treed the coon.

Re: 1/4 bloodhound crosses?
Was it a windbreak fence? I remember treeing dogs and they got minused and then they went on and treed again and I didn't want to tree again because I didn't think there was a tree there and figured they were hung up again. I believe it must have been you on the cast that treed your dog and when we ...

Re: 1/4 bloodhound crosses?
Dan, I've hunted coon in various states and with all the breeds out there. I've seen a lot more average dogs or sorry dogs than I have great dogs. That lay-up ability might be common in really good coon dogs but really good coon dogs aren't common in my experience. Hope someday I have some good dogs!

Re: 1/4 bloodhound crosses?
Mike, I would expect any dog to leave the ground scent when they get slapped in the face with body scent. Some are better at locating by winding and I'm guessing that's what you're talking about. My Billy dog was the best lay-up dog and locating dog I've owned. I watched him tree coons that other ...

Re: 1/4 bloodhound crosses?
Mike, you talk about those dogs changing from trail bark to tree bark hundreds of yards before they're treed. What does that mean? Mine all open more as the track warms up and are bawl mouth dogs but most always chop on a running track after the jump when they're running body scent instead of ground ...

Re: 1/4 bloodhound crosses?
My redbones have a lot of Hoffmiester and T-top behind them. The T-top Rat dog was out of a half brother/sister cross, both dogs being out of Go Man Sam. Hoffmiester's Rusty red was a Go Man Sam son. Rat was bred to Raven and that cross is in in all my dogs. Raven was out of Hoffmiester's Bomber and ...

Re: 1/4 bloodhound crosses?
My male is 70 pounds and built good with good feet. He has a fairly heavy coat and does well in the cold. Not a bald bellied, short, thin coated dog. When you turn him loose he goes hunting, I have no use for a lazy, close hunting dog. Very tough hound with a ton of heart and brains. Hunts hard ...
