Actually a hinny is still considered a mule. We have a couple in our club, they tend to be smaller in size than your average mule, but this is not a hard and fast rule. Side by side, you can't tell a difference although I think most I have seen had slightly smaller ears. personality wise, no ...

Try before your buy. Most any decent horse or mule person will take you on a 4 hour or more trail ride to try out the animal for sale. Try to ride in similar country you want to hunt in.
