Re: Trailing in the desert

Re: Trailing in the desert
I dont know if my thinking is right on this but I think if a cat like a big powder puff full of scent. When the cat is moving slowly and carefully only a little scent falls off but when it starts running and making quick movements more scent falls off. I was running a cat one day. They would jump ...

Re: Kidney failure
Make sure they are getting plenty of water. Some guys around here where there is water everywhere for the dogs were having some problems. Started keeping water in front of the dogs instead of just what they could get in the woods and the problem got better. They make some nice spill proof water ...

Re: Coon Hunting
Also before you take your dog hunting teach it to come when called. I don't know how many times I have hunted with guys that had gps on there dogs and we could see right where a dog was and it wouldn't come. Without gps we would have been running around trying to find the dog.

Re: Coon Hunting
All good advice given above. In the event you do loose track of your dog. Learn what size track your dog has and check trail and road junctions for tracks . Have chased dogs for miles on gravel roads to catch up to them. Also cary an extra jacket with your scent on it and a little dog food. Put your ...

She looks like she is maybe 2 to 4 years old. Good looking dog. To me training never stops mo matter how old they get. Good luck with her.

Take a 22 or 22 mag brass. Slide over end and crimp onto antenna. Doesn't seem to hurt range i of antenna.

Re: Before GPS collars, motor vehicles....
A few years back I was two hours from the house and realized I had forgotten the tracking equipment at the house. Decided to go on hunting rather than go back and get it. Almost right away we started a cold track. I drove around to the bottom and couldn't hear a thing. In a panick I made several ...

Re: If your shot bear or lion is stuck in...
I have seen limbs shot off many times. On a recent Wounded Warrior hunt the game wasn't moving good and several of us had worked hard to get these guys cats. We finally got a nice Tom treed in a large pine that was up high sitting on the biggest limb on the tree. The hunter shot the cat and it just ...

Re: Sight or sound?
I agree sound and sight play a factor in the fear that the lion has but in most cases it is the wind being run out of them that actually cause a cat to either tree or stop in the ground. In a few cases on bobcat when the conditions weren't right or not the right dogs I have seen stamina cause them ...

Great show but what impressed me the most was the shot you made on that running coyote.

Re: Squatting
I saw a cat take this to an extreme one day. We had started a cold cat that the dogs quickly jumped out of a brush pile right beside the road. The cat crossed the road not far from the truck with the dogs maybe 15 ft behind it. It was a young cat. There was a rocky cut bank not very high màbe 15-20 ...
