Re: Lion habitat
just look for the shittiest place you can see, that's where they will be. deer and water helps too, but I have seen lions in the winter living where there are no deer, eating porky pines and rabbits

Re: first bear of the spring!
sometimes he goes from the start to finish trailing with the hounds and other days you have to get real close to get him to thread in. I have caught him using his nose a time or two

Re: rigging bear
depends on the scenting conditions. I've seen my best rig dog miss a track that was only hrs old because the wind is wrong. found the track by looking out the window. couldn't get it going that day. next morning the dogs blew the top off the box in the same spot and I couldn't find a new track ...

first bear of the spring!
went up for the first time this year to look for bears. either couldn't find a track or kept running in to other hound guys everywhere I went. when I was just about to head home some turkey hunters pulled me over and said they found a bear track on a log rd. I drove up there and my box exploded ...

Re: Michigan dogs compared to western dogs
our problem in southern Utah is there are not very many bears, or roads. so if you find an old track or get a half ass bump on the rig you better turn out if you want a chance at all. some times your cold trailing half a day before you get him jumped. then the dogs don't have enough gas left in the ...

Re: Pit bull/plott for bear?
You guys that have hunted bear more than me go ahead and correct me if I'm wrong here, but the more I see with our bears, grit really has nothing to do with getting them to tree. I was having a lot of bayups and bears walking my dogs off so I added some bite to my pack. I started noticing that when ...
