Re: QUESTIONS? MATURE TOM
Rinehart, Ever shoot a female? How bout a couple? Females over your dogs? Now be honest. Ever let your clients shoot kittens in Cliff Creek? Now be honest. Quit pissing in Tessa's Cheerios. You are nowhere near the ethical hunter you portray yourself to be. I might not agree with Tessa or what she w...

Re: track minded dogs.
Dewey, I don't want to sidetrack too much from the original questions, but would you say in your opinion that some of the best cat dogs on the coast have at least one or two of these very track oriented dogs in the bunch? Some of the best catching cat dogs I have seen are very "track oriented&q...

Re: ???? wyoming lion hunting ????
Tessa, HA 19 isn't filling because about everything that climbs a tree in this country dies at the hands of a client. Every lion track I have found in 19 in the last three years has been killed. Booger, I do not want to contribute to, or get any more involved in this pissing match, but the Greys and...

Re: Custom mule saddle questions
Very good posts above. I'll add a few things learned through my mistakes in the saddle building process. I had a custom saddle built a while back thinking it would be my last. I had the maker use a pretty cheap ($300 so I didn't think that cheap) tree as he didn't think there was much difference in ...

Re: drahthaar for bear
Boarhunter, I guess I stand corrected on the DD testing system. Maybe I am thinking of their puppy testing qualifications. Looks like you are using yours for true versatile dogs judging from your pictures. Good on you thats what these dogs are made for. I would say you are correct that PP's are by a...

Re: drahthaar for bear
I have a pudelpointer which is one of the dogs used to create the wirehair way back when. He has caught bears, lions, and coon on his own. I also used him as a trap dog where he located dozens of cats and coyotes. He is a good pointer and a great retriever. I think there are likely wirehairs that ar...

Re: Lion tracks?
There are a couple of local outfitters/guides that have most of the lions killed out of your neck of the woods. I would guess that is a big part of your problem

Tell me how a voter passed ballot initiative is the fault of ODFW, if you don't mind? Misrepresenting the facts isn't going to get hound hunting back any quicker.

Re: what is an old cat?
Shoot4fur, you are right on the money. Additionally, I wish I had a nickel for every houndsman that talks up how they only take old mature toms while they are actually shooting about everything they tree or letting friends do the deed.

Re: Britchen/crupper question
Mike, I wondered the same thing as asked above, unless that photo was after a good downhill. Not trying to be rude you likely have forgot more about horses than I will ever learn, just curious. One more question as well, on all our work horses we run the britchin lower down the hip than you pictured...

Here is the saddle I ride the most. Built on a Will James Tree by a good friend of mine. Roughout 15 1/2 inch seat. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_rOdSFC87wtU/TNs99Z-xvdI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/VSplmC92GWw/s800/IMG_mcreek.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_rOdSFC87wtU/TNs9-KOY9TI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/Yu-qvFI5C54/s800/IMG_0021.JPG

Re: Black Hills boys whacking lots of females
Doogie, I'm not mad at anyone. Simply pointing out that in the black hills, regardless of jurisdiction or pursuit method there aren't too many people being selective. And you are right, the hills can likely support a pretty heavy harvest, not arguing that at all.

Re: Black Hills boys whacking lots of females
Might want to be careful what you say. Across the border in WY (area 1 and 30) houndsmen haven't been much more selective. In the last 10 years hounds took 66 cats 50% female and 50% male. Without dogs 61 cats have been taken 46% female and 54% male. Meaning the nonselective non hound hunters are ac...

Re: New to horses and mules
I'll second what these guys said above although I'm nowhere near an expert either. Especially what Machias said about mules. They are awesome when they are good. I have been on some awesome ones. You can force a horse to do something and get by. You won't force a mule to do something for very long b...

Re: chaps/coldweather
I agree with all you guys. Here the weather can change quick so especially when going overnight I like filson wool pants, smart wool longhandles and a long chink on top. If I get off to do a lot of walking I just throw the chink up over the horn. If it is wet as hell or snowing real hard I will subs...
