Re: guide school?
I am sure there are some great guide schools out there but cutting strait to the chase with an apprentice guiding position sounds like a good option to me. I know the toughest part of getting into the business for me was getting my first job. A guide school may be able to place you with an outfitter ...

Re: how many?
how many many dogs do you guys usually run on bear...do u think i could tree one with one dog?
IT DEPENDS ON THE DOG AND THE GIVEN BEAR
I agree with that.
I like 6-10. Any less and your chances of catching seem to start going down (depending on the dogs, I have seen 1, 2 & 3 dog packs catch ...

Re: Keeping kids off the streets and
I checked it out Stuntman. Very good info for those less than familiar with this type of hunting. Thanks for posting.

Re: Keeping kids off the streets and
Nice job taking a kid hunting, what type of dogs are you running? I have never coyote hunted with dogs really but it looks like fun, had a friend who tried it up here but had a hard time finding enough open terrain to use sight dogs effectively.

Re: Here's one for the books!
Have you asked for help? I personally know one board member, seems like a very sincere and dedicated individual. Not trying to start an argument, actually exactly the opposite, I am encouraging you to take your case to CHC if this grows into something big and see if they will be willing to help with ...

Re: houndsmen of Today
Wolves are certainly a big concern. Loss of habitat and loss of access to hunting areas are a major concern. Anti hunting sentiment in the public is also a concern. Unscrupulous slob hunters that continually do things both illegal and unethical that reflect poorly on all hunters concern me. I wrote ...

I found the posts Brent made in the trapping section and posted on them back to the top so they would be easy to find. You will also want to read Brent's post from October 12 in this topic.

Re: WOLF TRAPPING IN THE US
BTT, for those looking. Let's do something about these suckers folks. The next thing we are going to need to do is make wolf trapping regs in Idaho a little more hound friendly, but first things first, lets kill some wolves.

Re: how to make a wolf set
Back to top for the guys looking for tips on wolf control. Recently got certified here in Idaho, class was very informative. Got the Alaska Trappers Association book & DVD at the class. Watched the DVD, good information, makes some things easier to understand being able to see it demonstrated.

Re: *GRAPHIC* DAMN WOLVES! (Not my dogs)
Anyone having questions, I'd be more than glad to share what I have found that works for me here....wolves are wolves and they will make a misteak, let your hounds help even out the playin field...they can not resist stoppin where your ol hound just marked a tree!!!!

Re: Anybody in Maine putting up good numbers or size bears
Thanks J.R. that is very generous, if I ever do make it that far I will certainly hunt with the dogs. I probably wouldn't want to shoot a bear anyway unless we got on a real snake, just like to hunt my dogs, travel and meet other houndsmen and see their dogs. If you want to PM your # to me I will ...

Re: Anybody in Maine putting up good numbers or size bears
I have never been to Maine but it is on my list of places I would like to hunt. We bait out west here but I have never heard of anyone having 100+ baits. That sounds like an insane amount to me. I am a licensed guide in 3 states but I can understand why the public gets upset about what the guides ...

Re: What do you do for work
For the first five years I was out of school I did about every hard ass job you can think of including hooking chokers under a high lead logging yarder, sawing logs on the landing, falling timber, pulling green chain in a saw mill and then settled into a job as a construction worker for a company ...
