Blue Lacys???

Post by Josh Kunde »

Well I was just surfin the net and I cam across these dogs. I have heard alittle about them in the past, I was just wondering if anybody on here runs them. they sure are pretty lookin, but I was reading one page that said they were the most commonly used dogs by gov. trappers. what I want to know is what kind of treeing instinct do they have. I found a page and forum on them but all it was was hog hunting herding and bloodtrailing. just figured if gov. trappers use them alot they should tree something.well sorry about the rambling on , just being curious.

The only experience I had with them was as cow dogs. They're considered a Cur breed of dog though, so I'm sure they have a strong treeing instinct. All I know is they're fine lookin and sure are hard working dogs :D

ya thats what I was thinkin. My grandpa always had a wiemariener hangin around the house and I like that they resemble them alittle bit. but you can tree stuff with em. all I can find is that they are good herders and tree varmits. but I havent found any breeders online that have them primarily for treeing.

I know a cowboy on a neighboring ranch who has several of them. He told me they are excellent hot nosed hounds with a lot of speed and some grit and ok treeing ability. He said they are great hog dogs, and can run a coyote but he has never been able to get a cat with them.

Josh why dont you just go get acouple Kemmers from Fry, he lives right there in Elko and the dogs are proven cat catchers, no sence wasting time looking for cur dogs, when there are perfectly good proven cur dogs right in own your backyard.

I am not sure if I will end up getting one of these dogs, I was thinkin about a cur but I still love the way these hounds sound and hunt so I dont know. Pretty much just window shopping and researching. lol thanks.

Come on Josh are you tire kicking again?

One thing I have found out about you here on these forums are you are the least bit bashful or shy  There are alot of houndsmen and curmen in your neck of the woods that have some great stock that works in your area.
Call Darrel, call Mike....don't make the mistakes we all have made and waste your time with experiments otherwise you could be sitting home playing nintendo while others are treeing game like crazy

Josh, I have lacys and my family breeds them. If you would like to know anything let me know. We have a family friend that has ran them for 50 years, and on just about every type of game. They are better known for their hog hunting and blood trailing because that is who is talking on the computer. Most of your trappers and other hunters are not the computer type. I will be glad to help you with anything or put you in contact with someone who can.

Yea Josh don't listen to us computer types that actually put game in trees. Listen to those that want you to waste your money buying a stock dog that almost became non-exitent back in the 70's.

Here this is there own official website, go to it and read where they talk about treeing lions in nevada, oh thats right it does not say that

http://lacydog.com/content/TEXASBLUELACYS.aspx

Here is just a few highlights from there own website......
the family is said to have used greyhound, scenthound, and coyote stock in creating the animal

Lacys herded cattle, hogs, and chickens, and also served as droving and hunting dogs

their easygoing way with children, their aptitude for jogging, agility courses, and games of Frisbee, and their suitability as watch dogs are all contributing to their growing popularity as family pets

Funny but I did not find a thing on their website that says anything about treeing ability, I guess if you want to chase stuff around the mountain maybe they will herd it back in your lap  I'm sure the dog does a nice job for what it was bred for but it was not bred to be a tree dog.

Spanky, sorry if that sounded wrong when I talked about the computer types. I was refering to the trappers and hunters running lacys, not houndsmen in general. I am not on here to sell dogs, just to tell a lie or two, and hear a good hunting story. The reason I like these dogs is do to the fact I can take them out one day and tree game, and the next work my cows, run hogs ect. If you read on the tldga site you will see that they do talk about treeing game

"Lacy's are easy to handle, spectacular workers and pets that are great with children. They are energetic and dedicated dogs, capable of handling the meanest longhorn cattle or most jittery of hens, taking the job instinctively, requiring no training. They are known to replace the work of a cowboy by five times. This breed is also used for hog hunting, finding wounded deer, and treeing game. Suitable for a watch dog."

One breeder has sold dogs to hunt bear and the dogs are doing great. The same breeder has dogs running loins in NM. I am not saying that they will ever be as good as a hound when treeing game, but I fell that I could put my dogs an any game/work and it would get the job done. We now have lacys in the narcotics feild, search and reacue, and some are being trained in blood suger dogs for diobetics.

Like I said before, I never wanted to put anyone down or sell dogs, just wanted to inform anyone the best I could.....Rob :D

Most breeds of dogs if you look far enough back you will find that they were used to hunt something.
Toronto hunt show has a Labrador Retriever trials and a women showed up with French Poodles and took home the top dog award. Talked with her after and had to admit they did well, just would never have one in the blind with me.
It all comes down to training. JMO

That would be something to see!? It is ashame to see who many good breeds fall to the wayside due to money and looks.
