Post by fgarrett »

I am going to try my hounds on bear, my question is, is there any way to identifiy the sex of a bear while in the tree.

I usually try to spot the old tea bag to confirm. :D If they are sitting covered up you can usually tell by their head size. Boars usually have big old melon and if they are real big they usually have a noticable crease. Real little ears is usually the sign of a nice boar.

Sows are usually short and squatty.

If you are in an area of high bear populations, don't feel guilty about harvesting a sow. Sometimes those biggers sows are barren anyway. It doesn't hurt a bit to take a few of them out.
