callen goat horns
Mike Leonard wrote:Right on Pete. I have several very old horns and I use to use them but don't much anymore. I knew an old lady in Montana who would make some out of goat hors that we kind of spiraled and you could really hit a high note on them.
Yep a toot from a goar horn worls best and don`t confuse folks other hunten ogs at a closeenoughf distance of hearing too ya. A dog has too be trained too come to a horn and a fox dog, coon dog, biggame dog, working ranch brush working dog, even a bird dog all come if trained too a hornand the get too lnow your horn from any one elses and from the difference of a truck horn or person holleren for it. Buy a large orphased trumpett mojt piec if ua can blow it successfully to make it work/ drill out the small endof your goat horn an in-plant it too the horn ! If a trumpett mouth piece ya just cant blow yet and make it sound/ get a trombome mouth piece. Useing one of these ya will certainly be able oo blow/ I hope ya work on it and get it all goen and its a dieing artform for hunters but back in the late 50`s an early 60`s I used on so did my other hunten buddies.

not sure what the mouth piece
is like, but most horn-like instruments require you to suck your lips into your mouth and make a buzz by forcing the air out hard. You can practice by blowing raspberries on the back of your hand.
The pitch will be higher if you force the air harder.
It is usually tricky to figure out exactly the right technique for a new instrument but easy once you've got the feel of what works.

yea that part about sanding them in an enclosed area that they don't tell ya,that was real cool, got a couple huge bull buff horns from my buddys ranch, they laid out in the weather til they pulled off the sckull,so i sanded with a palm sander and 80 grit for a frigen hour than sanded it smooth with lighter paper, when i walked out of the shed i smelled like i had been branding for a week and burnt horn is all i could smell for a week, lol, but it turned out cool til i blew on it,i had imagined the seen in Lord of the Rings where that vikeing lookin rascal steps up on the ledge and blows on the horn and lets out a deep OOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO,insted i got more of a week bAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaa, lol, heck all that work and stinking for this, crud, anyone want to buy the makeings of a kick butt powder horn, lol
