I remember one time when Old Dog brought a guy to try a dog out that was for sale. We treed a cat and I had Old Dog climb the tree to jump it out, to run again.(wasn't the first time I got'em to do it  ) The cat bailed out and we turned the dog lose, then started back to the rig. I heard something and it was Old Dog screaming for help!!! Ran back and there he was hanging in the tree. He'd slid down tight between a fork in the tree and was "STUCK".

It took awhile to get him down!!! Sorry Skip, it's still Funny and Cool that you'll do that for me!!!

One time I was on a Bear call that was killing Sheep and had JC with me. The Dogs were walking the Bear and JC was to young to go with me. I told him to stay in the rig and don't let Lead (my terrier cross trap-line dog) out. It took a couple hours to kill the Bear and get back. I looked at JC and his hair was matted down and he had a shiny look to him. I asked whats wrong with you??? He said you told me not to let the dog out, so I rolled up the windows and I started getting hot. Then! he said, I poured a can of Coke on my head to cool down.

Here's one for ya! John Warner's Grandpa was on the Predator Board here in Coos County. He also had hounds at times. John is one of the most impressive young hunters I've seen.
One thing he doe's, which he said his Grandpa did ! Is to tie the dog and piss on it while scolding it for running trash.
He said, his Grandpa told him that it tells them your the leader (alpha) of the Pack.

I have never tried it (afraid of a quick snap!!) but have herd of some cowboys that do when breaking Horse's .

How about you??????

A few years ago i was out exercising ole Cheyenne in the offseason . She started smelling something in the road and kept getting down the road a little faster until she was at a dead run .The problem was she wasn't saying a word. This went on for over a mile and never once did she leave the road.I finally decided she was after a coyote and started reaching for the tri-tronics .Before i could shock her she left the road and treed !!! What the.....? I drove up beside her and looked out the window to see a long tail in the tree!!! The surprise on its face matched my own as it bailed out and ran to the bottom of the canyon . Cheyenne won't mess with those things unless they're red hot and that one was.I called her out, gave her a half hearted cussing and went home.

I've hunted there some in the past, it is one of the most Beautiful of them all. Last time over, JC and I were just Deer Hunting. "EVERY WHERE" we stopped and hunted there were Wolfe tracks. We talked to a cat hunter and he told us some story's that makes me very upset and will probably never hunt there again. It wasn't only that hunter but I know and have talked to several others with similar story's that tells me not to go. ... They are starting to catch and kill some Wolves now, but it will be hard to slow them down!!

we will probably never get rid of the wolf problem in Idaho. they are embedded and are getting wise to humans. we may see the day where they will shy away from people but will still be there lurking in the shadows. I do get calls from guys that want to come and run dogs but I really am uncomfortable about it because if we did bet hit by the wolves, it would be held against me for picking the spot to hunt. back in the day, a good cold trailing dog was the ticket here and I had a few but now I think they wouldn't live to a old age here. yet another liberal idea that directly offends me. by the way if any liberals are running dogs and are on this site, I am offering a open invitation for them to bring their dogs and I will show them where to turn them loose in awesome cat country.

Some Gratitude, Old Dog!!

That story reminds me of a guy named Steve McDougle that was going to a bear tree with me and I heard Him, holler "HELP"!!
It was steep ground and he had stepped up on a small downed tree about 5ft. off the ground and was trying to craw over a 4ft. red rot old growth wind fall. The red rot broke lose in piece and he slid between it and the smaller tree and his legs were pinned. The more he tried to raise up and pull himself up and out, the more rot would slid in on him. When I got to him he was hanging upside down exhausted. And I had a hell of a time getting him out!!!

One good thing about Old Dog is, he will Hang! as far as never falling asleep on me. And he used to make the trees as well. Never could hear and was lost all the time when he did go! So maybe if he turns those little Mountain Curs out on a hot one, they 'll squirt one up close enough that he can hear'em and can make the tree, without getting lost or broke down??

years ago, me and varminater were hunting alone as usual, because we are the only two that we know that can stand each other. any way, we come up treed over the edge of a rock bluff in a old snag looking tree. the top was blown out but it still had some green at about eye level from the top of the ledge. we couldn't see the cat from the top so we decided to make our way down a steep narrow little trail that led to the base of the tree on a flat spot about the size of a hood on a pickup. we couldn't see anything from there either but there was some dead branches on the ground and brad said that if we hit the tree, maybe the cat will move to where I could see it. so he squares off like the bases were loaded and he was going to hit a home run and smacked the tree. when he hit it the whole tree let out a hideous growl!!!! we made it up that trail a whole lot faster than we went down it for sure...
