They are implying that younger males will leave the pack and go out and search for a mate. Not sure if that constitutes as a mating season but Im sure it happens that the younger males will branch off of the pack and go out searching for a mate to start their own pack from time to time.

"protecting pups", "mating season" all horse $hit excuses these wolf lovers use to make the wolves actions seem OK to the general public!

Sorry to hear about your dog the trouble is if your last name isnt Baucus nobody seems to care what kind of loss you have due to these worthless animals.

I don't know what all the touchy feely biologists say, but from my experience they ALL have pups. In our area, you don't see a bunch of them together but little groups. They all go off and have their own litters.

Also, it is BS about how they are more territorial and kill to protect their young. They kill anytime they want to, to get rid of another dog species in their area. The reason it happens a lot more in the summer is because there is an ass-load of wolves and a pile of bear hunters with dogs in the woods. It happens in July, Aug, Sept, to Oct. Then it will calm down until the guys hit the woods after deer season looking for a cat up until the 1st of the year. It calms down after that because most guys are yote hunting and you can do that further south in the state. I bet there are hardly any depredations in May-Jun, because there is a leash law in effect and you can't have dogs out hunting.

This whole wolf deal is starting to hit home to the right people. The genaral public could really give a rat's ass about a bunch of scraggily lookin guys with long-eared dogs in the back of thier truck. Us doggers could roll hot with rifles year round and we'd probably only be able to snuff out a few. Sure we would feel better but have little impact on the f'in things. BUT you start messing with DEER hunters and the shit starts to hit the fan. WI deer numbers are down and even though most of the problem was caused by our DNR giving out mitt fulls of doe tags, these guys got their sights set square on the wolves (which are partly to blame). I know one thing if Jimmy Six-Pack has been freezing his ass off for a couple days without seeing bambi, you can bet your last dollar that the old 270 is gonna bark just a little far back if old Canis Lupis comes by.

Another hunter had two dogs killed this week in the Yaak. It was at a tree and close to dark about two miles from my cabin. We went out the next night and got them howling pretty good.
I know of a gut at Ft. Nelson that traps and collars or kills problem wolves. He has killed over 600. He claims that over 95% of all sexually mature females(overone year) killed in the spring are pregnant. Come on, they are dogs. How foolish do you think we are to believe only certain females come into heat and won't get bred.
We caught and havested a nice tom yesterday, but we worked hard to cut it fresher then walked it out and had a guy in the next drainage making some noise as the wolves were thick near wher we cut it the freshest. The had something trapped in a culvert and all we found was a little red snow.

Last night I had my one dog come out from a cougar race badly chewed up by a wolf. My first incident with a wolf attack on my hounds. It appears a wolf was biting her over the top of her back with puncture wounds on both sides of her. I had the vet come check her out and she figures the dog has a punctured lung as there is air build up under her skin but figures she will pull out of it as she is eating and drinking water. I find it amazing that any dogs survive a wolf attack. There were no wolf tracks in the area for 2 weeks however a friend of mine was out hunting today and found wolf tracks on all the roads sorrounding the area of the attack. Just my luck they happened to just be moving in.

I'm truely sorry to hear about your dog. Hope she pulls through. Sounds just like one of the dogs we had attacked. Take good care of her.

let me say first sorry to hear about that 2nd i know montana and oklahoma are worlds apart but.., my opion on this and it's only my opion so every do gooder dont attack me for it. I would get a good .22-250 ( i got one you can borrow) take stroll through wolf country and get some pay back if your not into guns there's these dandy little things called snares 15 dollars a dozen set'em & forget'em, I got some other real old school ideas that are used by local cowboys to keep coyotes in check that work like a charm and you dont even half to be around for'em to work I wont post them here cause i dont want the flack, there is a reason our fore fathers sought there lives when this country was settled. Wolfs rights vs your rights.... no brainer where i come from
or ya'll can wait until they start coming after you or attacking kids before people take a stand, follow laws of course it's the right thing to do,but when the laws compramise your livley hood...you need to decide quick, i'd be damed before i'd sell out and let them run me off, oh well sorry again :beer

I really dont understand what the hell is going on with the fish and game and laws and regs in these states. They are considering the life a predator more important than our own. City people really just dont get it i guess. My house hold is completely fed by wild game. I havn't bought beef in...i dont even remember the last time. Do they not care or just dont understand that letting wolvies and lions (oregon) run unrestricted. Mule deer numbers are drasticly lower in oregon. Now i firmly believe lions should still exist but wolfs are a different story. I really just dont know what it is going to take for a change to happen. I guess it will probably happen once its too late. Another has anyone ever tried getting insurance on they're dogs for the reason of wolvies killing them. That might bring a whole new weapon to our war! Just a thought. sorry for rambling. Just venting!
