Here's one for you to try and swallow: In the area where I leraned to hunt bobcat, there was a group of old time hunters that had recently died or where going to die within five or so years. These were hard hard hunters with streight cat dogs. They hunted mostly females. All their best ones were spayed because they didn't want to be bothered with the heat cycle or unplanned pups. They had hunting to do and would let nothing come in the way of it. If they needed pups they would breed a young female, and then if they needed her in their hunting machine, she would be spayed.
I guess I understood the point, but I sure thought it was tragic. It did not seem like a very good breeding program

And of course, when those men died their dogs were completely gone in one generation. They never let their dogs outside of their circle any way, so I guess that is how they wanted it.
There was a saying in that area: " Hunters dont breed and breeders dont hunt."
I know it is proven wrong by a few shining examples, but I have also seen some truth to their saying.
