Chelan 1 female or 3 total
Okanogan 7 females or 17 total
Stevens Pend Or. 0 females 11 males
Klickitat 4 females 10 total.
Guys and gals Lower Columbia Sportsmen, The WA State Hound Council, and Buddy from BGH went to battle for you on our Pilot Program. We fought over issues to make this hunt work. One thing we fought for was to eliminate the female quota or to make these hunts male only or to keep the hunts open after the female quota has been met. Stevens Pend Or. is going to be your test zone to prove that we are the most RELIABLE source to the state to regulate the big cats. The dept. made it hard for the boot hunters to kill a cat, because we said it was the boot hunters that were killing our females. We stressed that houndmen would be RESPONSIBLE and SAVE the FEMALES and only harvest the mature males. Lets prove to Martarello that we were right and hounds need to stay in the woods to maintain and protect our cats.
Thanks for your support and happy hunting,
Mic O'Brien

Re: Cougar Zone update
heard they were going to go out on a limb and give the Stevens pend guys a chance to hunt male only.
this is a gift from the department, (I think) The Qouta was 6 females, and boot hunters Killed 10 Females. So this hunt should not have happened except they wanted more Males taken than females.
As Mic said, I too can't stress how important this is in the last year to Shine and show the department that Hound hunters can be selective unlike boot hunters.
Please Pass the word, to these guys in Steven's Pend. They need to understand they are going to be under a micro scope and are holding a big Piece of the puzzle for showing that Hounds have a place in cougar hunting...
I know with the connections on this website, we can reach every single Hunter that has one of those tags and try to ask them to hold to a male only qouta. We need 100% success.
I say this all very humbly, A few years ago I mis-identified and killed a Female for my first lion, I took my time and looked for the black Spot, Just didn't read enough of the details about where the black spot was supposed to be. So I'm not any better and don't have any room to preach here.. I'm just asking PLEASE Help those new guys out so there not any mistakes are mis-identification issues like I had. Trust me I would rather have had a cat to be proud of for my first lion than something I regret and so would most of the new guys. I don't think It's not the Old timers that will mess this up, It's the inexperienced guys that may need some help

C-1 female
O 6 females 14 total
SP- 11 males
K- 4 females 9 total
Good so far 5 cats were harvested in the first day and only one female. We are doing great so far with only one mistake. Lets keep these hunts open and prove to the Dept. how valuable we are.

Re: Cougar Zone update
Well I guess we are proving ourselves. We closed Chelan in 2 days on the female quota. We killed another female in Klickitat. Three toms were killed in Okanogan though. But on the bright side , it seems the guys in Pend Or. are only looking for big mature toms. They still have 11 toms left.
