Re: Proposal to end coon hunting in Washington
Ok I found it.
http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/20 ... 08-016.pdf
I would recomend as many people request to be included in the process.
How interested parties can participate in the decision to adopt the new rule and formulation of the proposed rule before publication:
(List names, addresses, telephone, fax numbers, and e-mail of persons to contact; describe meetings, other exchanges of information, etc.)
Contact Lori Preuss, WDFW Rules Coordinator, 600 Capitol Way, N., Olympia, WA 98501-1091
Phone (360) 902-2930; e-mail at Lori.preuss@dfw.wa.gov.
Contact by June 9, 2010. Expected proposal filing on or after June 23, 2010.

If the Hoosier Tree Dog Alliance can do anything to help, let me know. I would also recommend contacting Steve Fielder with the American Kennel Club. Jerry Mioll is the executive field rep for AKC (812)212-1619. They have a full legal department that can assist. Contact Todd Kellam at UKC.

Re: Proposal to end coon hunting in Washington
I called and talked to Lori this morning. I asked her the reason for this.
It's not a proposal to end night hunting.. ("YET") She was just asked to submit the 101 form so they can propose to ammend the rules.
Here is some background. Apparently she said something about a US Forest service ranger who was shot at night. The hunter "thought" was a coyote. Also they believe poachers are out poaching and "saying" they are Coyote hunting. Her boss, Deputy of enforcement has requested this, so it's coming down from enforcement.
NOTE: (I'm just relaying the message here, I'm withholding my judgment or opinions on this matter until I see what form this takes.) I personally am skeptical, however I'm taking this matter and issue very serious. I Have requested to be included in any decision making commitee, or talks from the begining.
They don't know what they are going to do, She is getting a lot of negative response for this. So it might be Dead on arrival, however we must keep pressure going.
The best thing we can do is keep the pressure on this. If they think it will be easy with little public input, it will get done... SO... Email.. Phones calls, etc. Be polite, but direct. Leave messages, and Email to follow up.
I personally would also Email the Game commission now to let them know about this, since they will ultimately be the ones to Vote on this rule or issue. you can email the commsision at

Re: Proposal to end coon hunting in Washington
I got wind of this last week and sent Lori an e-mail, we have been e-mailing back and forth for quite a bit, she is easy to talk to and has been very respectful so far. Makes me wonder what they do sometimes, just sitting around messing with things. So a guy in GA was shot at at night, we have to close all night hunting down or severly restrict it??? Grrrr. I have been and will remain polite with her, and they are receiving alot of e-mails from the coyote hunters as well.

Ok guys I'm still tracking down my leads, but I beleive Buddy has all the info.
The Washington State Hound Council is on this as they are the ones who brought this to my attention. Lower Columbia Sportsmen's Alliance is involved too.
Join a club guys we gotta get money going, the select few fighting for your rights can't keep paying the bills.
I also found out the DFW folded to the Humane Society on the coyote hunting. This was not an enforcement issue, it was proposed by the HSUS. I don't know if the DFW felt the HSUS would back off of our cougar hunt if we gave them something or why they caved in on the coyotes.

We are not in Goergia, this is Wahington so why the hell would they pull coon hunting for a coyote hunter in Goergia shooting a guy.
It is plan and simple in my family, enough has been taken away from those honest hound hunters out there , they take coon away from us here.
I will be moving out of State for sure. Been thinking about it anyways come next spring.

Keep up the pressure guys I don't think this is going anywhere, but until we see a white flag let's keep the pressure on.

Re: Proposal to end coon hunting in Washington
Guys this thing is not over yet. Lori sent out an email stating that they are going to change the rules for night hunting. She said that they were not going to outlaw night hunting just create new rules. We will know what the proposal is in the next few weeks. We can try to keep everyone updated as the proposal is released. We will have a chance to view it and make suggestions. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be a war, but we need to get prepared for a fight.
