WSCA is having a money hunt 2/7/09. Going to have a little bench show workshop and potluck with a club meeting thrown in and then a money hunt.
Not UKC, so any tree dogs welcome. Using UKC Nite Hunt rules and the highest score gets cash.
Being held between Yelm and Rainier.
Grade hunt 2/7/09
Re: Grade hunt 2/7/09
never been involved with any sanctioned event before and was wondering how it worked. I live in Yelm and have a couple hounds that I would like to get involved with. Please let me know how this works. I did go to the event you had in December just to check it out.

Re: Grade hunt 2/7/09
Hi Bryan,
First, this isn't a UKC event, so both registered and non-registered dogs can enter.
Second, in a money hunt everything is handled like it were a UKC event, but the dogs do not have to be registered and part of the money goes back to the highest cast winner.
I do not know what the pay out is, but lets use 60/40 with a $10 entry.
The entry is $10 each, 12 dogs enter= $120 collected.
The club keeps 60% ($72) leaving 40% ($48) to be paid out.
With 12 dogs, there would be three casts (casts have up to 4 dogs in them)
If all three casts come back with plus points, then that $48 would be divided $24 (50%) to highest, $14.40 (30%) next, and $9.60 (20%) to the last one.
For the actual hunting part, you are competing against the other dogs in your cast to score the most points by having the most accurate dog and knowing what he's doing. You earn points when your dogs strikes or trees and you call him correctly. The points are awarded: 100 1st dog to open, 75, 50, 25 for the next ones. 125 1st dog to tree, 75, 50, 25 next dogs. If the dog quits trailing or treeing, or runs after off game, his points are minused. If you can't find the coon in the tree after they've treed (for 5 minutes or when all dogs are at the tree) then the points are circled. There is a score card to keep track while you are out there. Before you leave to hunt, a time to be back is agreed upon and each cast has to hunt 2 hrs.
These are the bare bones rules, full rules are available at the UKC site:

I hope this answered your question. We never set a hunt deadline for this one, it was rather assumed everyone would come at 3pm for the festivities
and then we'd head out early as possible after eating.
Look forward to meeting you, Bryan. Bet we've meet in the melee of December. Sanctioned (hound council or UKC) events are chaotic for those trying to pull them off. This one will be more laid back....that's our plan anyway!

Re: Grade hunt 2/7/09
do you have to be a member and if so can someone join at the hunt. also how long does this event last i would hate to drive 7hr for 2hr event.
You don't have to be crazy to make it threw life. But it helps
Re: Grade hunt 2/7/09
You don't have to be a club member at all. It starts at 3pm Nikki showing about how to stack 'em on the bench and pretty much playing around with the dogs, then eating and then heading out for a night hunt, which I assume would be a two hour hunt. You have to set a time back by and that's how long UKC hunts are. There won't be any shooting of coons (hard to get people to take others to their spots anyway).
No idea how many will enter, and size of prize depends on that of course.
Can't make any promises about anything, except there oughta be pleanty of food and a variety of houndsmen!
