$150 or $250 lion permits
$150 or $250 lion permits
I want to know what you guys and gals think about our 6 county lion tags going to $150 or $250. I believe that if we want to survive in this state we need to bring in CAPITOL ($$$$$) to the government. I believe if we payed more money and gave them more money we would get more lee-way. Look at the gillnetters they pay a lot of money to stay in the Columbia River. And they are still there, even with all this salmon stuff. I just want to know what the people are thinking. I personally would pay what ever it took to play the game.....

Re: $150 or $250 lion permits
I'm not sure??
Would I pay it, Yea. do I think it's a good Idea or Helpful with the Pilot program.. I'm not sure.
That would require a Finacial statement, and deciding where the funds go and how they are spent. Would it be enough for WDFW to notice?.. I estimate 15K which isn't allot...
I'm thinking about it. Just not sure where I stand on the logistics of it. The program is written to address cougar problems, I think the commsision is going to want to keep with that mentality. they will probably be hessitant to got to anything that will give the appearance of a Trophy hunt.
Have you discussed with the department about this? Are they open to the suggestion?

Funny thing is that's one thing Mr.Heath has brought up in his proposal for the new rules is that this is now a "TROPHY HUNT" where they are wanting the bigger tom cats targeted.

Re: $150 or $250 lion permits
I'm just going off of what The department has been telling me over the last couple of Years that I've been suggesting comments. (Most of which have been ignored)
At least the Last 5 years they have very careful Not to wanted an appearance of a Trophy hunt.

Re: $150 or $250 lion permits
Mic,
We should try and get together and try and figure out what to do with this, Sounds like they are going to change next year for sure. My schedule is busy, and with cat season starting next week it's going to be busier.
We also need to start Talking to our County commissioners on the west side, so that we have some voice here. We need them to request inclusion into this program.
But I would like to meet and discuss options and such. Maybe meet in Woodland for dinner or something..
I'd also like to try and meet with the department or one of the commissioner for Feedback.

Our vice prez Bookem is working on how to get our commisioners on the wagon around here. It sounds like you are on the same page we are. We diffenently can get together and discuss things. This is what we are focusing the Lower Columbia Sportsmen Alliance on. We are wanting to improve our image and improve and gain hunting. To me, I believe if we as houndsman don't deliver money to the state they don't care about us.

Re: $150 or $250 lion permits
I'm kinda against this idea. I don't think the 15k would do anything to help the game commission. We already know that the government can't manage any money. I'm tired of the hunting in this state and every other state becoming a rich mans sport. We as americans have a right to hunt. If they want to make some kinda of suggestion make one that each county votes on their own seasons and not let everyone from the west side of the state dictate what happens throughout the whole state. If each county could vote on managing their own wildlife it would better suit that county.
Re: $150 or $250 lion permits
Sorry man but we are in a battle right now, and no way could I agree with you. We as houndman are one period. What's yours is mine when it comes to hunting our dogs in the state. As for the west side deciding your hunting I'm not sure if you are talking about Seattle telling us what we can do. Or are you talking about the only organized hunting group that is fighting right now for your right to continue to hunt your dogs. I do know that $150 tag ain't no rich mans sport. Our hobby is one of the cheapest things we can be doing. If you don't think so take up golf or skiing............................

Re: $150 or $250 lion permits
I don't think that 150 is that much either. And I am talking about seattle making our decisions state wide. We should all be fighting to keep hunting because I believe that its our right to hunt. But what concerns me is that when the state decides that hunting with hounds is no longer the moral thing to do on coyotes. Without letting the citizens of washington vote on this issue then our days are numbered. No matter how much we fight them.

That's the Problem that lost our hunting. The People Shouldn't be voting on wildlife Issues... that's the whole reason we are in this mess is because "the People" Voted on something they know nothing about..

Re: $150 or $250 lion permits
That's why I think each county should decide. Then there would be hunting because they realize there needs to be a way to keep certain animals in check. I don't necessarily think the government should or can balance anything. Look at our countries deficit.
Re: $150 or $250 lion permits
Maybe we need to be working with and get involved with the DFW. They may take into consideration what we say and want. We need to rebuild our reputation with the DFW and let them know that most of us are not blood thirsty killers , and that we are conservationist and care about the game we pursuit. I'm not going out and going to push this tag increase I just want to know what everyone wants. Another idea I had and I"m not acting on this right now either is a $25 application fee and maybe a $25 permit fee if drawn. Just ideas like I said I'm not going out and pushing this issue, just curiouse...................................................................................

Re: $150 or $250 lion permits
Here is my 2 cents! Let's drop the issue of the 6 counties and leave it the way it was. Now you don't even have to own hounds or live in the state. Let's try and push the pursuit only seasons. I have no one here in yakima county to team up with. There are a few guys around that hunt but they all want to be secret about it. I was wondering if anybody know the laws on running posumm in wa state. Before long I will probably take that up. I've been hunting this state a few years with dogs and it seems that everytime I run into someone they want nothing to do with me. How the hell are we going to ban together and change some things when we can't even hunt together!
live every day as if it was your last.
